Things to Consider when getting a Tattoo
Below some important points to consider when getting a new tattoo, find more about tattoos in our specific tattoo articles.
Do your research on the tattoo artists and shop
Know your tattoo shop and know your artist. Most artists have a specialty, think about this when choosing one. A good artist is not specifically hard to find, talk to him or her and ask a lot of questions so you feel comfortable.
Additionally, you always want to look at a shop’s cleanliness and portfolios of their specific work. You can already do a lot of research about a shop online nowadays with the many review websites around.
Prepare yourself and get tattoo inspiration
When you have decided on which tattoo you want and which tattoo artists are going to place it, prepare yourself for the day. Many tattoo artists recommend drinking orange juice and eating a full meal before getting inked.
It is also recommended to clean yourself properly as the tattoo artists will get intimately close. Obviously, you should not do any drugs or drink alcohol at least 24 hours before getting your new tattoo.
Take care of your new tattoo
Just like with aftercare for piercings, the aftercare of a tattoo is very important. Tattoos will scab and they should generally heal in 2-3 weeks in which you have to take proper care of it. Avoid sunlight and going in bodies of water for at least the first 2 weeks.
At all times keep the tattoo clean and moist as it heals during those 3 weeks. Once your tattoo is healed it is still recommended to use SPF 50 sunscreen when going outside as you don’t want your tattoo to fade with the many years to come.
